Paving the Style & Craft Paving way.
Our contractors appreciate the clients and / or the sales consultants input at the initial layout stage.
A copy of the plan and worksheet will be given to the client, our foreman on site will have the same plan and instructions on site at all times.
The project is begun by lifting the existing surface.
The soil is scarified to a depth of 150mm.
Once scarified the area is then moistened, which densifies the soil particles.
A compactor is passed over the base, to ensure optimum base strength.
Bedding sand (river or mine sand) is then spread at a depth of between 20–30mm over the compacted area to provide a cushion for the pavers to be laid on.
The bricks are then laid in the required pattern. (The 900 Herringbone is highly recommended on driveway areas).
An angle grinder is then used to cut all bricks, so that any space greater than 20mm is filled by a brick.
An edge restraint is used on all exposed edges. The edge beam should be between 50-60mm thick. (Unless specified cement shoulders are not used as edge restraints)
A mixture of Plaster sand and cement is used at a rate of 4 wheelbarrows sand to 1 bag cement for grouting on all closed jointed jobs.
It is recommended that for cobble and open joint grouting a mixture of 3 wheelbarrows sand to one bag cement be used.
Once the sand and cement has been thoroughly mixed with water, the mixture is spread across the paving and with a plate vibrator is passed a few times over the grouting to ensure that the grouting fills the joints between the pavers.
The excess mixture is hosed off the surface very lightly to ensure that no cement is left on the pavers.
As a final touch, the immediate surrounding area where the paving has been installed is raked and cleaned up. However one must bear in mind that due to the sogginess of the cement one can never clean the flowerbeds completely as the cement is still wet. This would require your attention approximately 4 days later.
